Hey everybody, welcome to the Bridgetown Daily for Friday. May 1st we are into May as a

Portlander that just makes me feel good. Better days are ahead whatever comes. We are also

nearing the Sabbath on Friday night for many of us or tomorrow or Sunday for a lot more

of you, nearing the weekend, nearing a time to take a deep breath and slow down and unhurry

to the pace of Jesus and just savor the goodness of our life right in the middle of all of the

pain and disappointment and uncertainty of our future. And I have a prayer for you. It's

an anonymous prayer. It goes back a long time. I don't know the original source. It's a well-known

Sabbath prayer that I pray over my family on a regular basis every Friday night when we sit

down to the dinner table and light our candles and pour the wine and begin to enter into a new mode

of being for 24 hours of stopping and resting and delighting and worshiping. Let me pray it over

you now. Days pass and the years vanish and we walk sightless among miracles. Lord, fill

our eyes with scene and our minds with knowing. Let there be moments when your presence like

lightning illuminates the darkness in which we walk. Help us to see wherever we gaze that the

bush burns unconsumed and we, clay touched by God, will reach out for holiness and exclaim

and wonder how filled with awe is this place and we did not know it. I love that line, the years

vanish and we walk sightless among miracles and then the nod to the burning bush story. How often

do we walk sightless among miracles in our hurry and our distraction or our obsessive news reading

and our Netflix binging in our fear and all that is in our mind filling us up with worry or regret

about the past. How often do we walk sightless? We don't see the miracles of our everyday,

ordinary, beautiful life before God. So for this coming Sabbath and the weekend ahead,

may you walk sightful, not sightless among miracles. May God open your eyes to see the miracle

and the gift that life itself is however long it lasts. We're so aware of our mortality right now,
