Hello, Bridgetown Church and anybody else who is listening, I'm John Mark Comer here with

the lovely Bethany Allen for the Bridgetown Daily on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Today is Saint Patrick's Day, which is a legend.

This is the day that many people cut out of work early and go to the pub.

We had scheduled a happy hour for Bridgetown Church staff this afternoon, and instead it

is a Zoom call.

So that is the world we are living in right now in the pandemic.

But Saint Patrick, a lot of people in the West just think of him as an excuse to get drunk

a little early on a Tuesday afternoon, but it's actually one of the great saints of

church history and the Christian tradition.

And there's a prayer from Saint Patrick called the Breast Plate Prayer that I actually

pray every single Sunday morning early when it's still dark before I go and preach and

teach all day long.

And Bethany here is also a lover of this prayer.

Bethany, just give us a little background behind the prayer that we are about to read or

really pray together.

Yeah, I mean, we know that Saint Patrick lived during the fourth century and we know from

his story that he was actually enslaved by the Irish for at least six years and even

after being enslaved felt called back to Ireland to actually.

And he escaped, right?

We went back to England and then felt a call of God to go back.

Yeah, and be a missionary to these people who had done this kind of thing to him.
