I remember when I was really young, I had two kind of feelings that were strong.

And one was that I wanted to do something in the arts, like I wanted to do music or act or something.

And I also had this very, maybe not strange,

but I think to me at the time, it was strange, feeling that I needed to help people. My mom tells

a story a lot that I was like in elementary school and I would tell her over and over again,

mom, I'm supposed to help people. She'd be like, what is this kid talking about?

She'd be like, right, come relax, you know?

She said I would be down in the den

on my old Microsoft desktop computer

and looking up like college courses.

And I was trying to figure out how you help people

and I couldn't quite place it.

And so there was a time, I think like by middle school,

I used to say I either wanted to be a singer or an emergency room doctor.

That's right.

So, you know, not maybe talented enough for the first one and maybe not academically gifted enough for the second.

All along, I loved reading. This is independent of

those two feelings. Love, loved, loved reading. And I remember in high school, do you remember

this book? It was called, I think, the purpose-driven life. I think it's like a daily devotional.
