Summary

What is Lane Kiffin chasing? Brian Scott Rippee tried to answer this week, as the sixth-year Ole Miss head coach continues to entertain openings at other schools, all while preparing the 10-1 Rebels for their yearly rivalry showdown with Mississippi State.

He could leave for LSU. Or Florida. Or just stick around at Ole Miss. Opinions vary on what the announcement regarding Kiffin’s future on Saturday will actually produce.

But there’s no denying it’ll be a spectacle. We’re talking about Lane Kiffin here. Rippee deep dives with the Ole Miss Spirit’s Ben Garrett in this edition of Talk of Champions, powered by RiverLand Roofing.

We've got already some comments coming in at Rude Wayne, Texas. Obviously, it must be a Texas fan. Kiff and LSU is a done deal.

Could be.

Lane is in the decision-making process.

So whenever I get done with Rippy, I'll have to race over to Oxford from here in New Albany and go ask some questions. But yes, I'm headed over that way. One of the questions I'm going to ask him point blank is if there's anything you could change about how the last few weeks could play out in your role in it, what would that be? But if you all have some suggestions, man, we're all ears. I'm now welcome my guy.

2:17.9

Brian Scott Rippy into Talk of Champions, the box next to the box, and he's got some nice, like, Sports Illustrators in the background. See a little Trey Elston up there. Hey, Rip. What's up? How are you? It's an honor to spend my lunch break with you, man. I'm good. well dude you can't write fire like that yesterday not expect some people want to talk to you

2:37.4

you know what I mean? Oh, I appreciate it. I was, I meant it genuinely. But, yeah, it's all, all good. My mother-in-law designed this space behind me. So she'll be, she'll be pleased that you complimented it. Yes. You tell her that. You tell us she did a great job because I know you and I figured if we're up to you, it'd be like bare walls. You know what I mean? Very, very basic, right? I'm colorblind. I don't have a prayer. Wait, are you really colorblind? Yeah, partially. How did I not know that? I mean, it's not at like a top of the resume thing where I'm like, my name's Brian Ripett. I'm colorblind, but, uh, yeah, I guess, I guess if it ever came up, I'd have to mention it. Oh, well, that was really friggin funny. Rip, all right. So let's jump into it, man. I got to get to Lane's press conference at 1230. You've got to get back to actual work.

3:26.0

You wrote about this last night, just your whole take of the Lane Kiffin situation. What is Lane Kiffing chasing? And I read the whole thing. And, man, I would encourage all of you to go to Ripy Substack. Rippy Wrights. He's so good at this. Baby bro is like so much better at writing than me, man.

3:40.6

And I love reading this stuff.

3:42.2

And, man, I think you really expressed or at least brilliantly conveyed for a lot of people, the feelings of a lot of people, right? Old Miss fans in particular going through this right here. Now, first and foremost, where do you kind of see the Lane Kiffin situation? And then we're going to dive in some other stuff. Yeah, I don't, I mean, I have no idea what's going to happen. I wrestle with like two different aspects of it. Is like, is this guy actually going to leave a playoff team to go somewhere else to what he perceives is a better job? I mean, it'd be one thing, like, if he'd made the playoff here and they didn't have the horses to compete, but he's, he's never done this. I don't, I don't understand how you can, like, feel as if you've reached a ceiling at a place before you, like, ever actually, like, reach the next mark. It doesn't make any sense to me. So is he actually going to have the

4:31.5

stomach to do that? Because all of this goodwill he's built up over the last few years and

4:35.7

talking about how he's changing all that would go out the door immediately. That'd be a pretty
