So this Brian Kelly story continues to be interesting. Yesterday I said that there is no way that you

settle unless you just are a nice person or you have something that you think could be used

against you and allow them to fire you for cause and you get nothing. Now, my buddy Matt brought up a

good point about, you know, taking a lump sum and, look, you're probably going to lose some of that buyout money anyway if you want to coach. Like, that was an option that I didn't consider. I guess I'm not thinking of Brian Kelly coaching again, but more than likely he will. And if he doesn't coach again and does TV, there's still money involved in that. Part of his contract does state that

Brian Kelly, the payment that LSU makes him is offset by the amount of money that he would

make at a coaching job. So like, let's just say he signs a five-year deal where he makes

$5 million or $6 million a year. Or like the better example, and I should have thought of this,

and Matt is right. But like, let's say he gets a huge job that pays him $9 million again. Well, then LSU has to pay him none of that buyout. Thus, he gets, in theory, none of that money or very little of that money, right? So, like, you want to make sure you get the bird in the hand and score $30 million

off of LSU and then go take another job where you're getting $5 million a year potentially and you're getting all that money anyway. There is a chance that you screw around and, like, yes, you might get $9 million from another school, which I don't think is going to happen. Like, I don't think that Brian Kelly is ever going to get one of these gigs that are paying you nine, ten million dollars a year.

But if they are and someone's paying you $8, $9 million a year, then LSU has to pay you very little and they're off the hook.

LSU would prefer that.

That would be the dream scenario for LSU is that, yes, they have to pay you the buyout, but then you

get a job and you get none of it. If you take the settlement right now, that money is a bird in the hand. So I get it, and I didn't think about that from that standpoint yesterday, and Matt is right, and I agree. But the other angle, and this is an interesting angle that LSU is involved in right now is LSU doesn't want to pay the guy.

Brian Kelly, it's because they're trying to find a way to fire him for cause. The question is,

can they find cause? The other question is, is it worth how bad you're looking right now

to try to dig up all this dirt on the guy and try to not pay him? What will a big time coach
