The

0:07.0

The Hello and welcome to rock and roll politics with me Steve Richards, the weekly podcast.

0:34.1

Thanks so much for tuning in, wherever you are, around the world, and indeed, the entire

0:40.1

UK. And as ever, in our time together, we have got a hell of a lot to cram in. If it's okay

0:48.3

with all of you, I'm going to reflect on two themes and squeeze a third one in. I'm going to look at the inevitable row over the

0:59.5

Irish protocol, which is, I think, huge, as big a mountainous object that Brexit has produced.

1:08.8

And anyway, I won't preempt it. That's one of the things we'll be talking about.

1:12.6

And squeeze into that a little reflection on the alliances Johnson announced last week,

1:20.3

a kind of military alliance with Finland and so on.

1:23.6

And then briefly look at Kirstarmer and his declaration that he will resign if charged with a

1:32.5

penalty notice by the Durham police because last week I'd recorded the podcast before we got that

1:39.5

and there's one element of it which has been unexplored. Only one, because there's been much talk about it.

1:46.0

And I'm going to explore, if it's all right with all of you, that hidden element, which I think is quite important and tells us a lot about leadership and the artistry of leadership.

1:57.9

After my reflections, we've got some fantastic questions from many of you. I've had

2:04.8

hundreds of emails and I'm going to get through as many as I can. They are all related to

2:11.1

current themes or debates we're having on the podcast and as ever. They're from all parts of the

2:17.1

UK and from the United States,

2:19.3

from Europe and so on. And it gives us a real insight into many themes and how Britain is

2:27.2

perceived abroad and so on. So they're coming up. Before all of that, a few notices. First of all,

2:41.5

thank you for subscribing those of you who do the rock and roll politics Patreon version. A bit of an announcement about bonus podcasts.

2:52.4

For new listeners, we've been doing general elections, cinematic kind of elections with mysteries that need exploring and so on.

2:55.5

And I'm going to take a break from that. I'm going to come back to them because I'm still getting many emails with brilliant suggestions for general elections.
