Summary

Our bloody but unbowed Brexit Day edition. As Britain slopes out of the EU like an embarrassed pub drunk, Leaver triumphalism is strangely muted. Is the Brexiters’ victory is beginning to feel a little hollow? Maybe the REAL Brexit was the enemies we made along the way. Plus, period of reflection latest! The Labour Party sets the “days since we decided Jeremy did everything right” clock back to zero. Why the trade talks will inevitably turn into a culture war too. What we Remainiacs have learned during this battle. Alex rouses the spirits. And a final addition to the Brexit Time Capsule. It’s a bad week. But we’ll be back in seven days time, and onwards for as long as you want us. “The country has run out of season finales. All politics has left now are the mid-season filler episodes.” If (understandably) you want to think about anything but Brexit today, may we recommend our new companion podcast THE BUNKER? It’s on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Acast and more platforms every day. Oh and RSS too. Presented by Dorian Lynskey with Alex Andreou, Naomi Smith and Ian Dunt. Produced by Andrew Harrison. Audio production and script by Alex Rees. Remainiacs is a Podmasters production. Remainiacs isn’t going away just because Brexit is happening. We’ll be here throughout to keep the pro-European movement informed, entertained and fired up. Get every new episode a whole day early when you back us on the Patreon crowdfunding platform. You’ll also get our monthly Ask Remainiacs special episode plus smart merchandise, an exclusive weekly column by our panel, and discounts on #RemainiacsLive tickets too. #OwnTheRemoan remainiacs.com Get your free download of our theme tune ‘Demon Is A Monster’ by Cornershop. Hello and welcome to RomaniaX. This is unfortunately our final podcast before we leave the European

0:12.9

Union, but Brexit is not done yet and neither is RomaniaX.

0:16.9

Lots of listeners are feeling understandably deflated about this sorry turn of events. We

0:22.7

can't promise there won't be a few wobbles before the end of the podcast, but even without

0:25.4

the aid of special stamps, 50 pcoins and commemorative port pies, we will try to keep our spirit.

I'm Dorian Linsky, I'm here with a few of our regulars, name Smith is CEO of Bessar

0:35.6

Britain, my strove, MRP data. Hello. So Bessar Britain has published fresh data because it's all

0:41.9

about the fresh data. Which reveals that 90% of people think a Brexit deal with the US will put

0:48.9

the NHS at risk, 63% support freedom of movement, in keeping with recent weeks not much change,

0:53.8

I think 47% think it is wrong to leave the EU and 40% are in favour. How does this data

0:59.5

sort of tally with the election result, given a lot of these quite liberal leanings, it didn't

1:04.3

seem to stop the country voting for a hard Brexit government? Well the majority of the country

1:10.2

didn't so 53% obviously didn't vote for the Conservatives and Brexit party and it's pretty

1:17.4

consistent with what we've known all along that actually freedom of movement is pretty popular

1:22.1

and what we found interesting about this latest cut of it is that it's particularly

1:28.6

favoured when it is totally reciprocal, so when it's apples for apples it's our right to go and

1:33.8

live and love and study and work there and in return they get to come here, yeah pretty, pretty

1:38.6

supportive of it, it drops ever so slightly when it's a less transactional thing so it's like

1:43.4

well in order for our businesses to be able to sell into the single market are you happy for them

1:47.8

to be able to come and live here? Yes they are but it's like less so so it's all about the framing of it.

1:52.2

But it's conservative voters, you know they are, they are in favour of it, new conservative voters

1:58.0

in the seats that have gone from Labour to Conservatives, there is no regional variation whatsoever
