Don't laugh. All right, but should we try and talk about Thomas Cook without making it all about the B word?

It's clearly relevant to the collapse of the company, but there's no earthly way that the referendum result in 2016 is the

only reason why this company founded in the reign of Queen Victoria has gone to the wall.

And of course it is a conversation that is probably best had when the dust

has settled a bit. So listen, no one's pretending that there's not a relevant, but I think it

would be a little excessive to pretend that it is, you know, like night following day. The collapse

of Thomas Cook follows the collapse in the pound that followed the vote to leave the European Union.

Because I might change my mind in the course of the next hour. But right now, that's not what I actually care about.

I care about the people who are losing their jobs today. Some 9,000 of them, I read.

And several times that number stranded on holiday.

It would just be all a little bit human today.

Can we try to remember what it was like when we had at least some shared interests and feelings that weren't dependent upon how we cast our vote or lent

or which way we lent in that infernal plebiscite of 2016.

I've got a real soft spot for holidays.

Oddly enough, hearing Nick this morning, waxing lyrical about parents who made sacrifices in order to send their children to private schools,

the reason why I don't have, or didn't have a particular pension for holidays as a youngster is actually precisely that.
