Hello, my name is David Rundsenman and this is Talking Politics.

I'm joined this week by Helen Thompson, Finn R-Livsi, Glenn Rangwala and Chris Brooke.

And we're going to talk about British politics because we haven't done that for a while.

I think like everyone else, we've just been completely swept up by the drama in the United States.

We're not going to be able to avoid it entirely, but we need to talk

about Brexit. We're meeting on Wednesday morning and later today Philip Hammond, the Chancellor,

is going to be giving the autumn statement. It's been trailed a bit in advance. There's going to be

some hike up of the living wage, probably. There's going to be some fiddling around with the housing market.

But basically, two things are going to overshadow it, as they're going to overshadow everything else.

This government does.

The first is that money is tight.

I think there was a statement off the record coming from the government saying that there is even less money left

than there was in 2010 when famously there was no money left. So there's even less money than no money.

And then the other thing that overshadowed is everything this government does is Brexit.

And maybe we'll talk about this a bit later. It's not at all clear that anything that the Chancellor can do or indeed anything that the government can do.

It may be that nothing the Chancellor does, indeed nothing that the government does outside of Brexit matters

because that's what's going to decide whether this government is a success or not.

But I think we need to start with Trump very briefly, not to talk about what's happening

in America. We'll come back to that. But I just want to ask whether Trump's election, which is still

the kind of fact that just hangs over politics around the world, has it changed the dynamics of Brexit

in the sense that some people

have suggested that it's going to be harder for Britain to get a deal because European political
