Usually right alongside Martha McCallum, but he is, whether it's debate, whether it's election night,

he is the co-anchor for America,

but he's also an author.

He's written another book.

This one is making the case for America.

And, of course, by now you know it is Brett Bear.

Brett, when I saw the title for this, I knew that you should have gone to law school, because you would have made a fantastic lawyer. That's the first thing I thought is you should have gone to law school. Oh, man. Trey, thanks for having me on. I, you know, I thought about this for a while thinking as we get ready for the America 250 celebration of the Declaration of Independence 250 years.

I thought, why not try to make a case for the country like you're making a case in front of a jury

and present evidence, both voices from the past and voices from the present and kind of make the case that, you know, America is on trial,

and we need to take 30,000 foot view back and say, what's right with this country?

You know, like a good lawyer would do, early on in your book, you summarized the issue

very concisely for the jury, and the jury, the American public, and the readers.

And you use this phrase hopeful but troubled.

Many, perhaps most democracies do not last.

What troubles you about where we are currently?
