This is The Reason Interview with Nick Gillespie. My guest today is Brendan O'Neill, the chief political writer for Spiked,

and the author of the Bracing New Book After the Pagrom, October 7, Israel, and the crisis of civilization.

We talk about the response in the United Kingdom and the United States to the Hamas attacks last year.

Israel's ongoing military actions and what's likely to come next in what seems to be a post-woke world. On October 7th, says

O'Neill, the progressive left went from believe women to believe fascists. They took Hamas at its

word over the testimonies of raped women.

We also discussed whether O'Neill's politics have changed over the years. At the start of his

career or a quarter century ago, he was an unapologetic man of the left, a Trotskyite, in fact.

But these days, he seems to make more common cause with conservatives and

libertarians. My rallying cry remains the same, he insists, increase the power of man over nature,

I'm doing pretty well.

Your new book is After the Pogrom.

Let's start up with a basic question.

Why did you write this book?

I wrote this book because I thought the Western world went insane after Hamas' pogrom on 7th of October,

I knew the response would be bad.

I knew there would be excuse making and apologism and I knew that people would take to the streets to say,

Israel's the real bad guy. I knew all that would happen, but streets to say Israel's the real bad guy.
