The U.S. occupation of Afghanistan began 20 years ago, and for basically that entire

period our government has hidden the truth of what was really happening from the American

public.

That much was revealed by the Washington Post blockbuster reporting in 2019, and what

were known as the Afghanistan papers, elite Washington kept claiming in public that real

gains were being made, even though in private they were saying things like, we clearly failed

in Afghanistan and we didn't know what we were doing.

And every time someone suggested with drawing, the military industrial complex and foreign

policy elite kept insisting that if we only gave them just a few more months, they could

finally turn things around.
