Today's story comes from Brenda Arnold. In 1980, when she was 18 years old, Brenda planned a trip to visit her sister in Germany.

So I had sent her a series of telegrams telling her when I was going to be arriving and

unfortunately all came back.

So I didn't know what was going on but I knew that we had agreed that I was going to visit her on a

particular date so I thought I'll just wing it. After a long journey Brenda finally

arrived. The only information she had was her sister's address.

And after being on the road for like 30 hours, I was absolutely thrilled to finally be in her apartment,

think, oh my God, I've got this whole thing behind me finally.

So I saw her name on the doorbell and I rang the doorbell and nobody answered.

And I started to get this sinking feeling in my stomach and I thought oh no wait she's not here

she's at work she doesn't know that I'm here and I have no way to reach her and all of

sudden my world just came crashing down around me.

I said, oh my God, I can't believe it. I finally made it and now she's not at home and I'm

going to have to wait an entire day until she comes home from work.

So I just stood there for a minute or two,

and it was just completely dumbfounded.

And it was all I could do not to just break in the tears.
