Summary

Listeners write in asking for a framework to teach young people to view the world with a Christian perspective. John talks about credibility, plausibility, and discernment.

Then, Shane asks John for a Biblical grounding for Lent and how Christians should approach the season.

Another listener writes in to ask for clarity on how BreakPoint recently explained Jesus' humanity and if his body was fallen or perfect.

To close, John helps a listener think well on where we find our identity and how to think well of cultures and race in the spheres of society.

Welcome to the Breakpoint podcast, in our Q&A segment Ask the Colson Center.

I'm Shane Morris, host of the Upstream podcast, one of the writers from Breakpoint, and I am joined today by John Stone Street, President of the Colson Center, and the host of Breakpoint.

And today we're answering your questions about the origins and biblical support for Lent, theological questions about Jesus' humanity, and what the church needs to confront tough issues around racial identity.

If you'd like to send us a question to answer here on the program, all you need to do is email us at ask the Colson Center at colsoncenter.org. The first question,

0:40.1

John, is just a request for resources. This person wants to know, I appreciate the Colson Center,

0:44.9

Breakpoint, and the Fellows program so much. Thanks for all you do. We have a group of parents

1:23.1

training in philosophy or apologetics or something like that. And it is good to go to the scripture.

1:27.0

I would warn about using Bible characters as heroes. That's not really how the Bible

1:32.4

is written. What you want to do is develop confidence in the entire bigger story of scripture.

1:38.6

Daniel fits as a piece in a larger story, having to do with Babylonian captivity and that sort of thing.

1:44.6

It doesn't mean we can't learn anything from his life or from Chevroch Meshach and

1:47.8

Abendigo for the entire book. So it's a good book study to look at and talk about, okay,

1:52.3

what might the cultural moment require of me? What can I count on from God? But be careful

1:58.2

of using the Bible as illustration as opposed to integration, integrating kind of the biblical story or integrating our lives into the biblical story.

2:07.7

A couple thoughts to when you look at resources for the next generation, I think you need to think about resources in three categories.
