Hey, it's Brad, coming to you early on a Sunday morning in Washington, D.C., where last night, I was at the White House Correspondence Dinner.

Good evening to everyone.

This is an annual event that is meant to celebrate the journalists that cover the White House to raise money for journalistic scholarships,

and it's a chance to get the White House administration in the same room with the people who cover them day in and day out.

So that meant that last night there were cabinet secretaries and staff members and journalists all there, along with President Trump himself,

and the First Lady, who were attending this event for the first time in either of his two terms.

President Trump, Madam First Lady, on behalf of the White House Correspondents Association,

thank you for being here.

It is meaningful that you're with us tonight.

Now, I've been to a couple of these, and if you picture the room, it's this big oval

with more than 2,500 people.

It's crowded enough where it's tough to scooch by tables.

Well, around 8.30, as salads were being cleared, there was this big commotion from behind some of the doors.

It didn't sound like a ton to me on the other side of the room, but some called out that shots had been fired.

Secret service agents began streaming into the room.

Guns were drawn.

People hit the deck, ducking under tables,

and President Trump was hustled offstage by agents.

They just hustled the president and everyone out of the room. This had uniform men with guns pointing in here, and everyone went down to the ground.

Soon, tactical officers were swarming the stage with their long guns pointing out into the crowd. Cabinet secretaries were led out of the room.
