Hello and welcome to the first breaking news of 2026 of what most people think.

And wow, I look out the window and January, it's January, isn't it? January is so on brand as a month. It's like nothing that's going to happen. Okay, it's going to be cold. The travel is going to be fucked. You know that thing you wanted a while ago? Snow? Well, you're not going to get it when you want it. You're going to get it now when you least want it. Not only that, there's going to be world news that it's really deeply unsettling to the point where it threatens NATO Article 5. Yeah, so not because, and also it's a long time till payday. However, right, I am aware that there is lots of global news and I was looking around all the newsy news podcasts and they were like, Trump, Venezuela, Cuba, Trump, Venezuela, Greenland. I was like, you know what? This is a UK podcast, right?

And while I believe firmly that you're worried about all that stuff, well, you're certainly got an eye on it, let's be honest. This week, what the Britain, what I think what most people are thinking about is the weather and pubs, all right? It weather and pubs isn't it this is the things that are

going to affect our lives more immediately is it raining is my pub still going to be opening a year

how much is it going to cost to go to my pub and will they change the drink drive limit i'm going to

just go on a hunster for this episode that is what i'm talking about. And it's really interesting because I did a record.

I'm recording this Friday morning and I did a record of news quiz last night.

That's going out this evening at half six.

on the wireless, I was going to say. But it's interesting because, you know, when you do a

topical panel show, you go out there and the one thing that you really want is for everybody to know

what you're talking about. It's the same thing, it's the same principle that makes observational

comedy work, right? It's the reason why Michael McIntyre is such a brilliant and successful comic is when he talks about, you know, the man draw, you know, we all do this, we have a man draw. And everyone goes, that's true, Michael, we do have a man draw full of batteries and USB leads. If he went out and said, you know the draw where you keep photos of dead animals?

Everyone goes, whoa, imagine that if McIntyre suddenly went dark, dark McIntyre.

So it works because we understand the references, right?

But also, like when people are a bit depressed about the news, they sort of want things to be lighted up.

So we did a big section on World News on News quiz, And the audience liked it well enough, but you could sort of feel the change in gear shifts when it came to the weather. Everyone sat forward and went, yeah, the fucking weather, man. So I will be talking about that in this show. I'm going to talk about Labor doing a U-turn on the rates hike for pubs.
