Yo, parish orphans. What's up, retrogrades?

Early this morning, Pope Leo the 14th through the Vatican,

announced that St. John Henry Newman is to be made a doctor of the church.

And I'd forgotten that five years, six years ago, John Henry

Newman had actually been moved from beatified to canonized. He has been made a new doctor

of the Roman Catholic Church. This is an important little bit of news to a lot of people,

to a lot of Roman Catholics, because one, we don't have too many doctors of the church. I'm

going to talk about that today. What does it mean whenever a new doctrine of the church,

doctor of the church is christened. And what are the implications? They usually

do this for a reason. Surprise, surprise. It's not calling anyone corrupt or it's not saying

anything that should scandalize the average Catholic listener to know there's a reason they do

this. I don't think it's all bad. I don't think it's all good. Then I'm going to give you my analysis today.

from having the original eight doctors of the church, four east and four west, which is what it

was for many, many, many years,

four East and Four West.

Well, we need the common doctor, Thomas Aquinas.

So, Four East, Four West, they're all the basically eight original patristics,

plus Thomas Aquinas, who's the common doctor, the universal doctor, the angelic doctor,

who's smarter than all of the original eight combined.

Okay, so you stick with nine.

Well, then we just started going crazy naming doctors of the church,
