Michigan fans, it appears the football program has found its new head coach.

Kyle Whittingham could be named Michigan football's head coach as soon as Friday.

Deal is expected to be consummated here pretty soon over the weekend.

The search is over after 16 days, a frenetic 16 days after Cheryl Moore's firing.

The longtime Utah head coach is set to lead the Michigan

football program next year and into the future. How far into the future? That's one of the

biggest questions about this hire. We will discuss all of that here. In a quick little reaction

video, just a little housekeeping note. We're doing a quick reaction right now. So this is just the quick kind of breaking news reaction piece. The gut reaction is that if this was the route

that Michigan was going to go, the high floor experienced hire that has a history of, well,

has no history of scandal really within the program, no messes to clean up, really under his watch at Utah.

He was there for 21 years as a head coach.

I believe he started working there in 1995, BYU alum, a guy who has spent really his

entire coaching career out in that side of the country.

But now Michigan's going with a guy that there are questions about how long,

maybe it lasts.

But I think of the floor hires, probably the most competent and the most proven one they

could have made.

I think the best coach out of that group of tier two candidates, right?

Michigan fires Sharon Moore on December 10th.

Two days after that, Kyle Whittingham announces he's stepping down at Utah after the December 31

Las Vegas Bowl against Nebraska.
