Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade from the New York Giants. Wow. Get the hell out of here. How about that? New contract? Is that the issue? It's absolutely about a new contract. This is from Adam Schaefter. Giants all pro defensive tackle. Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade and will not be participating in the team's offseason workout program that begins tomorrow. Lawrence and the Giants have been through two off-season attempting to negotiate a contract reflecting his value to the Giants over the past three years, but there has not been any progress. This is not a... Perfect. This is very similar to what we mentioned earlier with the Islanders firing of Patrick Wilde. When something first happens, you're stunned by it. Like we all just said, wow, as Sean broke the glass and told us that.

But it's not surprising at all.

If you've known what's going on for the last two years, really, he got an extension,

but immediately got replaced and was underpaid relative to the top paid defensive tackles in football.

And some of that showed up.

And I won't say hold in, but it was kind of like that.

And so you felt that there was a disconnect between Dexter Lawrence and the organization.

And as the season went on and the underproduction kept showing itself, then it felt like it was

intentional and not, I'm just recovering from injury and I didn't have a good offseason.

I'm overweight and all these other things.

Now we get to the bottom of it.

He wants a new contract that Giants are probably dead fast against it. Therefore, he's requesting a change. And I remember bringing this up during the Combine, where Joe Shane was talking about the status of his salary cap, and he mentioned how a few of his players are underpaid. Like, he brought it up, and I thought it was hot. I was like, you're right, Joe, but why would you say it? It's almost rubbing it in to some of the guys on your roster. And one of the guys on their roster is Dexter Lawrence. And you had mentioned this during the season last year, speculating like, maybe it's the contract. I don't know what it is, but it could be something like that. And during the offseason, the early goings of the off season, we talked about how could this roster look really different and talked about the idea of trading Dexter Lawrence. I'll have to find the audio. I think I predicted it at one point. I think you did, actually. I think I did. I'll find that. And I remember the response was, hell no. How are you replacing him? Which, by the way, is a completely fair point. I mean, Sean looks to strut over there. No. You're not? Not all. Before you continue, the look on your face right now is of kind of like indigestion. But you know what? It's not fair for me to put words in your mouth. We'll ask you. Why don't you go and ask Sean Morrash? We will. Your thoughts, your instant reaction as the face of giant fandom about this report that Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade. Well, there's two sides of this. Number one. He'd come off a very bad statistical year. And my LOL George's point was so good, now I've got to wait.

It has to. So I have two trains of thought here. Number one, if we've learned anything about the NFL and trade requests, it's that just because I got to request the trade doesn't mean he doesn't just in turn get a contract worked out. Like I don't necessarily think this means definitively that Dexter Lawrence has gone and they won't figure this out. The only reason this feels that way is because of what happened last season.

Exactly. So that would bring me to point number two.

If Dexter Lawrence has seen it all with this organization feels underpaid, I don't blame him and I don't have any ill will. But I also kind of look at this as a potential opportunity for the Giants. I'm sorry, man, the Jets did pretty well for Quinn Williams with that trade package. Pretty. Yeah, beyond good.

They did phenomenal.

If the Giants could get a- For a guy who was also underperforming. Yeah. If the Giants could get a first round pick plus for Dexter Lawrence. And I look at the meat of this draft in the 20s, 30s. Think about the time it's the type of team that would trade for Dexter Lawrence. There's a lot of really good detackles in this draft, kind of like Evan alluded to when sauce garden.

I think I'm okay trading Dexter Lawrence if he gets that kind of package back. And then you're immediately investing in one of these big de-tackles like a Peter Wood's out of the drift and kind of restarting that. because you know what, man, Dexter Lawrence, you had every chance if really wanted that contract to put it all out there.

I was disappointed with your effort last year and the giants have sucked stop of the run with you we could stop we could suck stop of the run without you yeah but that's not the right approach like because you did mention that their biggest issue I think you said this on there numerous times The biggest issue you want them to address is their inability to stop the run. I'm not showing up, this is untenable, whatever, I've lost too much here, I want more money, I know you guys aren't giving any to it.
