The notes left behind by former attorney Evan Cochrane have proved to be a bananza for

prosecutors investigating the former president in the so-called documents case.

Cochrane's notes first recorded into an iPhone and then transcribed onto paper essentially

gave prosecutors a roadmap to building their case.

Trump pressured Cochrane to thwart investigators from reclaiming reams of classified material

and even suggested to him that it might be better to lie to investigators and withhold

the documents altogether.

Now earlier this year, over his strenuous objections, Jack Smith obtained the notes

through the Crime for it exception rule, which allows prosecutors to work around the

normal protections of attorney client privilege, if they have reason to believe and can demonstrate

to a judge that a client uses legal advice to further a crime.
