And I came into this final stretch of the season genuinely optimistic that McLaren and Lando Norris had the car and the talent to at least fight for the title. And there were shows

when I hitched my flag to the Norris mast and to the McLaren mast. And I made the case for why

they could and maybe should be able to do it. I hope that you at least found my reasoning to be,

if not compelling,

then at least entertaining. And the last two races really seemed, in my mind, to confirm

my notion that indeed the McLaren car had the advantage, a very real advantage on Vastappen,

and Vastappen was going to have to throw his car around like a weapon

in order to just keep his title fight hopes alive. And I have to say in the last four races going

into it, I thought this was Lewis Hamilton 2021 type performance where they had to bring it home

and Vestappen would be throwing everything at them. And at the beginning of

this race, I even saw a scenario where we'd leave Brazil with a 26 point gap. And I felt like

that was on the cards because Vestappen was P-17. He was nowhere. He was struggling all through

qualifying. And Lando Norris is on pole and he's sorted out all those poll issues, right? So

there was a scenario where we leave here and the gap is only 26 points. So my hopes were

there that the title fight would at least be extended beyond today. But then on track,

I saw things you people wouldn't believe. Attacks on the shoulder of Ocon, Max, with pace as bright as magnesium, and then those hopes for Norris were lost in time, like tears in rain.
