Happy New Year, everybody. It's another one. And I know everyone's talked about 2020. Well, here we go.

2021. Let's make it the best year ever. That's all I can say. Let's not look back. Let's look forward.

That's always the way to go. And welcome to another edition, the first 2021 edition of Business and Sports with Andrew Brown.

I'm going to start out with a Rance edition.

Rance Rants, Rants about so much happening because as you know in my world, when the game

stop, or at least the regular season games stop in the NFL, that's when I get busier. That happened

all when I was an agent. That happened when I was a team executive and it's happened as an analyst

on the business of sports. It gets busier once the game stopped. Now, again, the NFL is heading

into the postseason. There are a lot of games left, but there's some issues going on already that we

need to talk about and we'll do that here on the Brantz Rants edition of the business of sports. And we'll get right to it. The first thing

we'll talk about is Sunday night recording this on Wednesday. Obviously, there's been a lot of chatter

about what happened with the Eagles and the idea of tanking and throwing the game and all that.

You know, as I've talked about, the Eagles are a data-driven team.

They're led by Howie Roseman, who's into cap and contract analysis always has been,

always doing research on what's the best way to squeeze out cap room, what's the best way to squeeze out draft picks,

looking into what happens if this happens, how to use compensatory draft picks. So it wouldn't

surprise me at all if they knew, of course they knew before the game, that this is going to happen in

one of two ways. One, we win the game in our pick in the first round, highly valuable top 10 pick,

would be nine or 10.

Number two, we lose the game and our first round pick would be 5 or 6.

So it may not sound like a lot, but when you get that high in the first round,

when you talk about blue chip players, it is important.
