I'm Jeffrey Masters, and I am definitely not one of those people that claims to know or love

certain singers or actors before they're famous. I tend to only quote-unquote discover somebody

when they have a number one song

or are nominated for a Grammy,

and so I'm not the most with it person when it comes to that.

And yet, somehow, the exception of that is Brandy Carlyle.

I discovered Brandy years ago, like so many of you,

through the song of the story.

I climbed across the mountain tops, swive all across the ocean globe.

And from there, I found Cannonball, then Shadow on the Wall, and since then her career

has taken this meteoric rise, culminating with the release

of By the Way, I Forgive You.

When it comes to that album, I think it is appropriate to use the word masterpiece.

And so I'm extremely thrilled to say that Brandy is here today to talk about her music,

as well as about being a mother, revolving a relationship to religion,

and her brand new book, it's out now and called Broken Horses.

So without further ado, here's Brandy. So going back a bit, I think so funny that in 2017, the New York Times wrote about you,

and they called you a critically acclaimed but relatively unknown singer-songwriter.

And very quickly, that statement about being unknown, it's not true anymore.

Yeah, I remember seeing that article. Yeah, you're right. It's not true in more ways than one.

What did you think when you read that? I agreed. And it's like, you know, I'm from Seattle.
