0:35.0	I'm Jim D. Wurgatis and I'm Greg Kott. First we talk with the most exciting super group making
0:40.8	music today, Boy Genius. The names Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Degas and Julian Baker should be
0:46.8	familiar to sound opinions listeners. They're each responsible for some of our favorite albums of the
0:52.1	past six years. Phoebe and Lucy have both been guests on the show chatting with us. Phoebe's
0:59.2	about to be out there opening for Taylor Swift's tour The Broke Ticketmaster. In 2018,
1:06.0	these three friends put out the Boy Genius EP which quickly became a topic of obsession for a
1:12.3	particular subset of music fans. Greg, remember that HBO show Mera of Easttown? They used a
1:20.5	Boy Genius concert as a big plot point in 2021. I do for sure Jim and that's just a small
1:26.8	indication of the excitement the trio generated with just six songs. Now four and a half years
1:32.6	later they're back with an album called The Record. Twelve tracks recorded at Rick Rubin's
1:37.8	Shangri-La studios in Malibu but Rubin did not produce it. The group brought in Catherine
1:44.1	Marks along with Sarah Tudson of Illuminati Hades, Jay Som and Phoebe Bridgers frequent collaborator
1:50.8	Tony Berg. They signed to a major label and put out a short film directed by Kristen Stewart.
1:56.8	Over the next couple weeks are going to be playing a high profile slide at Coachella
2:00.7	and we'll be headlining the reset festival this summer. It's clear this record is a moment for
2:06.5	the trio to level up. We were very sad Mr. Cot that you couldn't be here for the interview but
2:12.0	everybody deserves a vacation. Producer Alex Clayborn stepped up with an able assist on what turned
2:18.0	out to be a great conversation, really relaxed and casual.
2:37.2	The line that jumps out to me as I listen again and again to the record is when you don't know who
2:43.0	you are. I'm going to paraphrase only slightly. You mess around and fall down.
