Summary

Bobby "I take audio production seriously" Warshaw returns to the show to help break down Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich. How fine were the margins, how much has Alphonso Davies developed, how Bayern frustrated Dortmund's approach, and how strange it was to hear crowd noise without a crowd?

Of course, we also meander into a wide range of other topics including podcasts that Bobby thinks are better than ours, the best ways to discuss soccer without relying on "hot take" formats, if predestination is a valid reason for avoiding player analysis, and much much more.

If you want to read all of Bobby's book (which I definitely have) you can find it here

Now, on with the show.

Thank you. Well, I can see the man I'm going to be talking to you today, which is why I'm extra energetic in the introduction. It's a man who has a pop filter in his pants and is still happy to see me. It's not one of the other. It's Bobby Warshall. Hello, Bobby. It's good to know you've already said the boundaries in this conversation, and that anything we say, any time, is just free to be reset on air. But that's cool. It's good to know early on. I think it's important to acknowledge that you are such a professional that even though you're recording remotely, like not even from the comfort of your own apartment, you still have a pop filter because you recognize the importance of good audio quality. And for that, I'm thankful. Who goes anywhere without a filter? I should add that your initial introduction, because I always try to write at least something down,

was going to be joining me as a man you want as your small-sided captain, which is true.

I do love it when I'm on Bobby's team, and he gets to handle the responsible stuff, and I just get to play.

2:46.8

Bobby's a very good small-sided captain, if ever you get the opportunity to kick around with him. You know, when I was in Dallas, the head coach, Shalas Heimann did not love me as a player, but he did tell me once that if there is a 5E5 World Cup, I would be captain of the U.S. national team. For real? For which of the many possible reasons, mustache aside? I think it was mostly a slight, and he was just like kind of being a jerk in the moment.

But I've always remembered it, and I try and make it a positive.
