Thousands of migrants who once risked everything to reach the U.S. are now turning back.

A new report from Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica's governments show more than 14,000 people,

mostly Venezuelans, have reversed course since President Trump's border crackdown began.

Reporters say the phenomenon is known as reverse migration.

For years, Venezuelans fleeing economic collapse traveled north to seek asylum.

Under the Biden administration, most people relied on a government app to request entry to the U.S.

But Trump shut that down on his first day in office, leaving thousands of migrants stranded

in Mexico.

Now, with the border effectively closed, the U.N. backed report cites that northern migration

has dropped 97% just this year, with many migrants saying they have no choice but to head home,

despite the crisis in Venezuela being far from over.

President Trump slammed the brakes on duty-free shopping Friday, ending a nearly 90-year

loophole that let inexpensive items slip into the U.S. without import taxes.

Caroline Pedro Cohen reports that the longstanding de minimis rule is being suspended

under an executive order signed by Trump last month.

Before, the widely used tax exemption applied to packages valued under $800.

But starting now, every package shipped into the U.S. will face taxes anywhere from $80 to $200.

That means low-cost retailers like Sheen and Timu, which exploded in popularity thanks to duty-free shipping,

will no longer have the same price advantage.
