Summary

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 243 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Another very long awaited one here, as Pip is joined by director of the glorious indie hit ‘Sorry To Bother You’ and long-standing member of Oakland rap group The Coup - it’s Boots Riley!

“…as I went on I realised the main thing that I needed to give people was passion…”

Pip’s been lining this one up for a GOOD long while, before the hype was bubbling in the UK for Boot’s debut film as director, and the wonderful news is that it will be in the UK very soon! I for one am sick of reading tweets about how good it is from US people. So it’s great news that us UK folk get a piece… This is a perfect if slightly condensed connection with Pip and Boots, as they get into his desire to be Prince early on, theatre, film school, wanting to sound like Ice Cube, the mainstream-ness of documentaries, having faith in a great cast, his diverse cinematic influences, importance of wardrobe and “beautiful clutter”. Oh, and that whole Spike Lee thing too... Wonderful - enjoy, investigate the film ‘SORRY TO BOTHER YOU’ and go through the back catalogue of THE COUP at your nearest convenience!!!

This is a paid advertisement from Better Help. I've got a really clear memory when I first got a

0:06.6

dog of being really focused on how important all the things I have to do for this cute little guy

0:13.6

are. Like I need to make sure he's getting walks every day, fresh air every day, fresh water every

day, eating good food. And it becomes such a kind of a focus and a drive because you want to do all

0:28.0

you can for this little creature that you love. But we don't always put that much time and

0:32.8

attention into what we need for ourselves. Like what are our basic requirements to get through

0:40.6

life. And we need to focus on that more and Better Help can help with that. With over a thousand

0:46.2

therapists in the UK already, they can provide access to mental health professionals with a wide

0:51.5

variety of expertise in mental health. As far as I know, they've not got any that can help dogs,

0:57.4

but again, as long as you're dealing with that, then they can help you deal with you as well.

I know a lot of you have been all are waiting this very excited about sorry to debuff you getting a

1:35.4

release over here. If you've you've you've followed me on on Twitter in particular, many of Boots have

1:41.8

been talking going back and forth when they didn't have distribution about, you know, trying to get

1:48.8

distribution in the UK because it's been kind of the the unexpected hit of the year in America

1:55.5

and initially because it's kind of an indie initially he was told that there wasn't a market for

2:02.8

essentially blacks cinema in the UK and that couldn't be more ridiculous, particularly when this film

2:10.3

is it's it's blacks cinema, sure, but it's also a million other things. It's one of my bonkers films

2:17.7

I've ever seen but I absolutely adored it. I'm pretty sure it's going to be in mind of the end of

the year films list. I have some of you know I do that on social media and on the podcast. So I'll
