0:08.5	Eugene Smith was a fantastic photographer. And since I did that episode, I've had several people reach out and ask if I would recommend
0:15.6	a good book on Smith's work to get started with.
0:18.0	And I do have a recommendation for you today, and I will say it is kind of hard to find books
0:22.3	on Smith, and I'll talk about that in a second.
0:23.8	But the one I would recommend is actually this one.
0:25.8	It's just called W. Eugene Smith.
0:27.6	The publisher is La Fabrica or La Fabrica.
0:31.0	And you can search for this on Amazon or I will also link it up in the
0:33.9	show notes and I think this is an excellent place to start for a number of
0:37.3	reasons I think first of all the quality of of reproduction in here is extremely high.
0:44.2	The image quality looks great.
0:46.6	The selects are good in here, and this is a good place to start.
0:49.5	I wouldn't consider any one book just because of how many photos exist of Eugene Smith to be definitive,
0:56.4	but if you want a good place to start, I think this is it.
0:59.8	The crux of the book deals with the photo essay that work that he did mainly for Life magazine
1:05.5	in the 1950s and a couple other publications as well.
1:08.2	And some of those major projects are represented here like the country doctor, the nurse midwife is here
1:12.4	as well. The project he did with
1:14.8	Albert Schweizer that was actually ended up being controversial and ended his association
1:18.6	with life magazines in here. And these are all represented in great detail with good quality and they just did an outstanding job on here.
