Welcome to podcast book club number, we don't know.

0:12.4

Ten, I think.

0:13.2

And it doesn't really matter.

0:15.0

Welcome aboard if you're joining us at this late departure stage or have you been with us right from the beginning.

0:21.2

We've got exciting times today, Jane, haven't we?

0:23.8

Because we've actually got an in-studio guest, a woman of a very discerning literary palette.

0:32.0

Who've we got?

0:33.1

Well, we've actually, we've gone to the trouble of getting a brain, which is brilliant,

0:36.6

and I'm incredible, we're both indebted to the formidable Laura Hackett. Laura, welcome. Honestly,

0:42.4

thank you for giving up some time for this. We appreciate it. What are your credentials exactly?

0:47.1

I am the deputy literary editor of the Times and Sunday Times. Those are probably the extent of my credentials. Do you need a full sort of academic CV? Well, people will have heard the lilt in your voice. You're from Northern Ireland. I am. I'm not sure how much that qualifies me for this particular book. But yes, that's true. I am, yes. Okay. And your favourite writer as a child? Favorite writer as a child? Beatrix Potter. Beatrix Potter. Okay. And your favourite writer as a child? Favorite writer as a child?

1:12.5

Just want to place you. Beatrix Potter.

1:13.7

Beatrix Potter. Okay. And Laura comes on our afternoon show, the live show, and talks about books on Monday.

1:21.7

And we're always so impressed with your choices and just the sheer amount of books that you've read for someone so young.

1:28.6

So you're about half our age, aren't you? Well, I do kind of have to do it. Not that I wouldn't want to, but it is very much

1:36.6

part and parcel of the job. But you are a very well-read young woman. Well, thank you. So your take on

1:42.5

this book is going to be fascinating because I think for an

1:45.4

awful lot of our readers, we are of a certain age. So Patty Smith has been in our ether. And I think

1:53.7

even though she has been in our ether, a lot of people have been surprised by the book. So we will,

1:59.9

we will come to your thoughts about, you know,

2:02.1

pairing that person with what there is on the page.

2:06.1

But just as a bookbook, did you enjoy reading it?
