Las Vegas, a little known town in southern Nevada, lies due east of Perump and southeast of Sugarbunker,

and stands as a testament to human ingenuity in the desert.

Rising from the harsh Mojave or Mojave Desert,

a brute force Epicurean Empire stabbed in the midst of 25,000 square miles of prehistoric desert

landscape.

Known primarily for its famous strip, a 4.2-mile stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard lined with

elaborate hotels and casinos. The city extends far beyond its tourist core into sprawling residential

communities. But even Las Vegas, with a strip that can be seen from space, has a

backstory, a prequel that is brighter and more earth-shaking. Before becoming the entertainment capital of the

world, Las Vegas was known as the Atomic City. From 1951 to 1963, tourists would gather on hotel rooftops to watch

nuclear weapons tests at the nearby Nevada test site, with mushroom clouds visible from
