I sat down with Professor Avin McMaster, who has become a Twitter friend and so graciously

offered to come onto the show and defend the Aeneid, and frankly, I needed it.

I needed someone who knows more than me about it to come on and explain to me why yes,

it may have been one of the most frustrating epics to cover on the podcast, but that doesn't

mean it's bad or not worth our time.

The Aeneid is actually incredible, so important, and beautifully written, and Dr. McMaster

does an incredible job defending it on this episode.

I will say we recorded it back in mid-December, so I hadn't yet covered the last two episodes

of The Aeneid that you have heard, so any of my opinions and thoughts in my episode with

Dr. McMaster don't reflect my having now finished The Aeneid.

But I think this is the perfect place for it.

You have all heard my crazy 14-part retelling, where frankly, I just had trouble.

The trouble was creating episodes out of it, succinct summary episodes that were entertaining.

The trouble was not actually The Aeneid itself, and that is why this episode you're about

to listen to is so important.
