Summary

I've sometimes heard from people that the Tarot is evil, and that using Tarot cards opens us up to negative forces and energies. I have also met people who are afraid of using the Tarot for these kinds of reasons. Is there any veracity to this?

In this bonus episode of INNER WORK, I address the belief that Tarot cards are evil. Join me for a discussion of:

  • religious references and thoughts on Tarot cards & "divination"
  • why Tarot cards - and other healing tools & practices - have been condemned throughout history
  • powerful ways of using the Tarot that don't involve fortune-telling or divination
  • the Doreen Virtue situation (and her ban on Tarot cards)

As always, everything in this episode is my personal opinion.

I felt it was important to put out a bonus episode on why tarot cards are not evil,

particularly since I have sometimes, not very often, but sometimes heard this from people I meet, from clients, even from family

other's beliefs and opinions and not be dogmatic about anything. And also understand that we might disagree,

which is okay. We are human and we won't always think or feel the same way. I do think I have

to take a stance, though, on this belief that tarot cards are evil or the work of the devil or that they will open you up to

Let's talk about why, because I don't want anyone out there to miss out on the transformative,

So first, where does this misconception come from?

2:13.9

If there's a belief that the tarot is evil, there's typically some religious context or perspective that is driving that belief.

2:24.3

For example, let's take a look at the Bible.

2:27.3

And before we do this, I want to be clear that I am neither for nor against religion as a whole, that I think we all

have the right to choose what to believe and what makes sense to us that the tarot as a spiritual

tool is not going to resonate with everyone, and that's all right, and that religion is not bad in and of itself.

2:54.1

So turning to the Bible for some actual references that have been used to condemn tarot cards.
