Hey all, it's Brittany. I know you were expecting a full show today and we were ready to give you one like a fantastic episode with an incredible guest where we discussed the victory in Georgia and

the power of multiracial solidarity and cultural revolutions. But yesterday something happened and it threatens to be a major

distraction. You know what it was because you saw it on TV,

a white supremacist insurrection at the US Capitol, a violent mob.

And actually it all started to unfold just 10 minutes from where I live.

So this was all happening really close to home.

I tried to keep a COVID-safe appointment that I had.

I tried to drive around the area of the mob to get to my destination in Virginia, but not

four blocks from my house. Did Reggie and I see a caravan of trucks proudly parading their

Trump and don't tread on me double-sided flags, windows down, right? Like

Smirk's planted on their faces, flags waving. We turned back home

immediately, so all of that stuff, all of that violence, that was close by for us.

None of this, of course, was surprising, right?

I come from generations of black elders who've known way more terror than we can count.

Many of us have been warning of this for years.

I've got enough personalized death threats

and a bruise lung from tear gas to know a slice

of what this country is capable of. But this was something different entirely and it is altogether disgusting and

Terrifying and infuriating

So there was no coming to you today with a regular episode. I know Congress went on to finish

the session they had started and God bless him but there was a noose erected on the side of the U.S. capital, a building built by enslaved Africans in America.

So I need to catch my breath and get my footing and I figured maybe you do too.
