Hey guys, this is Scotty. This is going to be a different episode and if you're used to talking with the gang and the banter and the fun and the random topics, this episode might not be the one for you. We're going to focus on the Tascobia 150

0:17.0

mile race, which I participated in this weekend. Tascobia takes place in Rice Lake and Park Falls, Wisconsin.

0:27.0

And what it is is a winter ultra, which is very different than the kind of races that we've been talking about on the show.

0:35.0

Specifically, Tascobia has two different event distances.

0:41.0

One is 75, which is actually 80 miles long, which doesn't make any sense, but whatever.

0:46.0

And the other is the 150 mile distance, which is actually 160 miles long.

0:51.0

This is done while pulling a sled which contains all of the equipment that you use.

1:00.0

Now there's a required gear that the race makes you carry with you.

1:05.0

You have to have a sleeping bag that's rated to zero degrees or below.

1:11.0

You have to have a stove, you have to have fuel. You have to have

1:15.9

blinking lights and reflective clothing and all kinds of other survival items. you have to have waterproof matches, and all kinds of things.

1:27.3

And there's three different ways you can do the race.

1:30.1

You can either do it by foot, by bike, or by cross-country ski.

1:37.0

So, you know, it's really unusual in terms of the distance, it's really unusual in terms of the format where you're carrying all these things and sometimes you're moving, you know, only two or three miles per hour. And then also it's extremely remote and there aren't very many aid stations.

1:53.4

So this year at the race, there was only,

1:56.6

I did the 150 mile version,

1:59.5

and there was only two aid stations.

2:01.0

There's one at mile 45, and then there's one at the turnaround at mile 35.

2:05.5

And then you hit the 45 mile aid station on the way back. So for 160 miles you have three different

2:12.1

aid stations. That's it. so you have to carry a lot of your own food

2:15.7

you have to carry a lot of your own water oftentimes the temperature is below freezing so you have to deal with things freezing and running out of water and

2:25.4

things like that. One of the other interesting and quirky things about these
