Summary

In an "Investigation" podcast exclusive, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders sits down with ABC News correspondent Kyra Phillips, Senior Executive Producer Chris Vlasto, and Senior Producer John Santucci. This wide ranging interview touches upon the aftermath of the Mueller report and the next steps for the Trump administration- including the decision to bar former White House counsel Don McGahn from complying with a congressional subpoena by turning over requested documents: "This isn’t just about Donald Trump - this is about protecting every president after this." While Sanders says that an appearance by Robert Mueller on Capitol Hill is still a "determination to be made at this point," she calls the idea that the President is trying to silence him "absolutely absurd," saying "the bottom line here is Democrats wanted something to be true that wasn't." Sanders also talks to "The Investigation" about her future as press secretary, and why -- even amid scrutiny -- she still feels "comfortable" with her credibility.

Chris Vlasto and also senior editorial producer, John Santucci.

0:15.3

I'm going to take one question because I'm like super late. And our guest, Sarah Sanders, needs no introduction.

0:22.8

And with that, I will take your questions.

0:24.5

She's been the leading spokesperson for the Trump administration since July of 2017,

0:29.1

just about two months after the start of the special counsel's probe.

0:33.8

It's been a two-and-a-half-year witch hunt.

0:37.1

But while the investigation and report may be

0:39.0

completed, the controversies surrounding it certainly isn't. Democrats continuing to call on

0:44.5

Robert Mueller to testify before Congress against the president's wishes. And today is the deadline for

0:50.4

former White House counsel Don McGahn to comply for a subpoena from House Democrats for documents related to Mueller's investigation.

0:58.1

So Sarah will likely be getting questions about this for a long time to come, but today we're happy that she has agreed to talk with us.

1:06.2

Sarah, thanks so much for being with us.

1:08.0

Thank you for having me.

1:09.2

We appreciate it.

1:10.4

So, of course, one of the big questions we all have is Robert Mueller going to testify.

1:17.5

You know, I think that's something that we'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks.

1:22.1

But I think the president feels like, as I think most of America feels like, that this is over. We have had

1:29.3

two years, millions of dollars in taxpayer money, hundreds of hours of testimony from White

1:36.6

House officials, former campaign staff, et cetera, 1.4 million pages of documents submitted, and they all came to the same conclusion at the

1:47.7

culmination and the end of that, that there was no collusion, which was the whole point of the

1:51.4

investigation in the first place. That's been determined. It's been decided. Democrats shouldn't
