Hello, Dreamers. I want to thank you so much for taking the time to listen to this bonus

episode of California Dreaming. This is not a California case, but I have been meaning

to try to bring a little bit of attention to the story for quite some time now.

And you've likely heard about this story either on a podcast, maybe on TV, or on YouTube or on social media

one of the main reasons you may have heard so much about this case

is because the person who is at the center of the story,

a young man named Donald Edward Fickey Jr. or DJ for short, his sister,

Amanda Shirley has been very active on social media in an attempt to bring about more

attention to her brother's case because it is essentially

a closed investigation when there are many, many, many people who believe that it was closed prematurely.

I don't know if there is very much of an impact that we can have

when it comes to getting the case reopened.

But there is a petition circulating

calling for the investigative agency in charge of this case,

whether it be the Walker County Sheriff or the GBI, which is the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, to reopen D.J's case.

So as I mentioned, all of this happened in Georgia, not exactly a state that has had the best

reputation when it comes to law enforcement and investigation.

As a matter of fact, I just read a scathing article in the intercept about the GBI, as the issue has come up again and again.

In most recent case that has come out of Georgia to hit the national media, the shooting death of

Ahmad Aubrey, and this is exactly what got me thinking about DJ all over again.

Amanda is in our Facebook group and she has been very open and transparent about her

brother's case and she has been at this for a long time in her attempts to bring attention to his story.
