UPDATE: As of August of 2020, the Medical Examiner has changed DJ's manner of death from Suicide to Undetermined. It's not perfect, it's still not correct, but it's a step in the right direction finally.

On October 3, 2016, father of 3 Donald ‘DJ’ Fickey, Jr. was killed by a shotgun blast to the left side of his face in Flintstone, Georgia. A number of conflicting stories emerged from the onset from the various witnesses at the scene, but one thing was certain among all of them - DJ did not shoot himself. Yet, the assistant medical examiner with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) ruled his death a suicide, when clearly all of the evidence pointed to this being anything but a self-inflicted gunshot wound. So, as it stands, DJ’s case is considered closed and is no longer being investigated. DJ’s sister, Amanda Shirley has been working tirelessly to get anyone and everyone to understand - DJ’s death is a homicide and a killer is walking free.

0:30.0	a young man named Donald Edward Fickey Jr. or DJ for short, his sister,
0:37.2	Amanda Shirley has been very active on social media in an attempt to bring about more
0:42.4	attention to her brother's case because it is essentially
0:46.1	a closed investigation when there are many, many, many people who believe that it was closed prematurely.
0:55.0	I don't know if there is very much of an impact that we can have
1:00.0	when it comes to getting the case reopened.
1:04.0	But there is a petition circulating
1:06.4	calling for the investigative agency in charge of this case,
1:10.3	whether it be the Walker County Sheriff or the GBI, which is the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, to reopen D.J's case.
1:19.0	So as I mentioned, all of this happened in Georgia, not exactly a state that has had the best
1:26.0	reputation when it comes to law enforcement and investigation.
1:30.9	As a matter of fact, I just read a scathing article in the intercept about the GBI, as the issue has come up again and again.
1:39.0	In most recent case that has come out of Georgia to hit the national media, the shooting death of
1:45.1	Ahmad Aubrey, and this is exactly what got me thinking about DJ all over again.
1:52.0	Amanda is in our Facebook group and she has been very open and transparent about her
1:58.4	brother's case and she has been at this for a long time in her attempts to bring attention to his story.
