When the Me Too movement exploded in October 2017, it was widely viewed as a moment of

reckoning for the film industry. But while Hollywood heralded a time

of change, the picture was quite different elsewhere. In France, another country with a rich

and proud cinematic heritage, there was a backlash against Me Too allegations, which puzzled

even angered many outside the country.

Now, though, a new wave of controversy in the world of French cinema, involving amongst

others the celebrated actor Gerald de Pardieu, has reignited the media debate in France,

and it seems to be gaining momentum.
