Summary

It's Bonus Song Thursday! Brian and Bill welcome back singer songwriter and musician Jeff Linden (jefflinden.bandcamp.com) to talk a little more about Queen and their collaboration with David Bowie, "Under Pressure." We talk about which Queen song we're sending to the aliens in outer space, legendary bass lines, "Ice Ice Baby" (briefly), the opening bass line to "Walk on the Wild Side," what the heck the song is about, and who came up with this bass line. Additionally, we have a little bit of a surprise at the beginning of the episode that you can listen to at soundcloud.com/thegreatalbums!

Hi, everyone. Bill here. Just wanted to give a brief message that's kind of a warning about the

0:07.1

episode you're about to listen to. Even though that this episode is featuring Queen and David Bowie,

0:13.8

we actually recorded this episode a couple weeks prior to David Bowie's death. So we talked about him and made no mention or didn't do

0:24.6

any sort of proper honors for the deceased, the recently deceased, as we talked about the song.

that happened just this past weekend. Our friend Renee Maskin, a singer-songwriter from the band The Low Light, who was also a guest

0:59.2

on our episode about Iggy Pop's The Idiot, which, for those that don't know, the idiot,

1:05.3

the idiot was actually produced by David Bowie.

1:07.7

So Renee is just a huge Bowie fan. She was our guest for the episode we recorded this

1:13.7

past weekend. And she wanted to do something special, even though we didn't cover David Bowie,

1:20.1

she wanted to play a Bowie song, and you should be hearing that right about now.

1:34.0

I catch the paper ball,

1:37.8

but things don't really take.

1:41.2

I'm standing in the wind,

1:45.0

but I never wave back, but I never wave back But I try

1:51.0

I try

1:55.0

Isn't that just an amazingly

2:00.0

haunting beautiful version of modern love?

2:05.6

I mean, that's the song that's like a dance track with horns and stuff, and Renee turned

2:11.9

it into something absolutely amazing.

2:15.4

The reason why she had covered that song was because this is actually part of an ongoing thing
