Summary

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32)

Compassion literally means “to suffer together.” It means that we see someone’s pain or needs and we want to help them.

Jesus shows compassion over and over through scripture. We don’t need to be afraid of stepping into someone’s suffering with them. Entering into that does not mean we take on their burdens or pain, it means we offer relief and love in any way we can. But no matter how we can help others or how others can help us, Jesus is always overflowing with compassion and with us in all our sufferings.

This week, let’s pray that our kids share compassion with others. Let’s ask God to give them the eyes to see the needs around them and the compassion to move to action.

Jesus, help us to be more and more like you every day. I pray that _____________ grows to be filled with compassion. May their hearts overflow with compassion, just like yours does, when they see needs around them. May they step into the suffering of others knowing that you are there too. Amen.

I normally do this in one or two takes. Like, I just like to share my heart with you guys and

0:26.6

whatever God puts in my heart, you know, I do a little preparing and studying. But for the

0:30.9

most part, one or two takes on these prayer episodes, y'all, this is like the fifth one I've done today. So send some prayers over here. Can we get through this one?

0:39.7

1:01.6

We're going to kind of close out the school year together. And then if you miss it, you can always

1:05.4

listen back. But I thought that would be fun to kind of have a live moment all together. But this

1:10.5

week we're talking about

1:11.8

compassion. And I love this topic so much because it really is, if you think about it in this

1:16.5

section of Share Jesus, how we can share Jesus, how our families can share Jesus, how our kids can

1:22.0

share Jesus. It doesn't always look like a one-on-one evangelizing moment. We're like, hey, sit down. I'm going to tell you

1:28.6

about the gospel. But a lot of times the way we live our lives and the way our kids live our

1:33.2

lives, that shows who Jesus is. And compassion is what Jesus gives to us, and that can ooze

1:40.5

through us through the power of the Holy Spirit. And so compassion really means suffer

1:44.6

together, which I love that. And that can be hard for kids, because if we're honest, a lot of us

1:49.5

and our kids included are basically self-absorbed people that just see our world. So this is one we

1:55.6

can definitely pray for, but then practice with them. And so I'm going to give you a few ideas,
