Welcome to another edition of the Five Star Zone. Rico Beard your host and I was at the spring

0:05.6

game for Michigan State with a spring practice last Saturday. It was a beautiful day. May have been

0:10.8

a record setting day for temperature and a lot of observations that I walked away with. So I

0:16.7

just want to jump right into that and probably the biggest one is the quarterback and when it came

0:20.5

to the quarterback position there was three guys out there but it looks like it's really up

0:25.6

down to two people. It's an open competition. Mel Tucker said that even though Peyton Thorne is

0:30.1

the incumbent everybody has a shot at being the QB starting QB for next year. After I finished

0:36.8

watching the game it kind of boiled down to either Peyton Thorne or Noah Kim. That's just to me.

0:43.8

Now I think that those are going to be the two guys that go into the summer battling it out for

0:49.9

that position and the reason being is they just look the sharpest with the first team.

0:56.4

When you look at it now for Noah Kim what he's going to find out is a lot of pressure comes with

1:02.1

being the starting quarterback not just Michigan State but anywhere and you can see Peyton Thorne

1:08.0

even talked he's starting to feel the pressure. You can kind of see that on his throws. He's not

1:13.6

as comfortable. Kim is still feeling the job of well you know what I'm the backup guy and the

1:20.9

backup guy is always the looser guy. The backup guy knows that you know what I'm just going to go

1:25.8

out there and have fun. You kind of saw that with Noah Kim last year when he got into the games.

1:29.6

He just slung the ball and he threw a lot of touchdowns. He excited a lot of fans.

1:35.1

Peyton Houser was a third quarterback out there. Now he completed some passes but

1:40.5

he just did not look as comfortable. I know that's a big fan favorite. Everybody wants to see him.

1:46.0

He was the elite 11 quarterback but in my opinion he did not look that comfortable and I looked at

1:51.5

that practice as pressure. Wasn't a game but all eyes were on you and you wanted to really stand out

1:58.4

and he did not stand out and when you're you know your Peyton Thorne you do have a little bit of

...
