Hi, welcome to Big Fat Positive with Shauna and Laura.

0:05.9

This is a very special bonus episode, another checking the inbox episode where we answer questions about pregnancy do-overs, staying awake, and embryos in limbo.

0:18.0

Let's get started.

0:28.0

Hey, Shauna. Hi. So, okay, we are turning this into a little cottage industry, our little advice column podcast. Oh, I love it. Yes. Side project.

0:42.8

It's so fun. I love answering these questions. I do too. I hope everyone likes hearing them. I'm guessing because we got so many questions that people do like to hear us

0:48.7

answer these questions. So we should get right to it. Shana, do you want to hit us with the first question for this bonus up?

0:56.1

Oh, yeah. How did you teach your babies to drink from a straw cup? Mine is having trouble.

1:02.0

Laura, yeah. You have any thoughts on this one? Yeah. So I did what my mommy and me teacher taught us to do, which was you take a straw, like a regular straw, basically, or if you have a kid-sized straw, I guess it'll work too.

1:17.0

But you want like an actual sort of firmer straw, because otherwise it won't work.

1:21.7

And you dip it in water, put your finger over the top, so it's holding the water.

1:26.1

And then you hold it underneath, you know, you hold it to the baby's holding the water, and then you hold it underneath,

1:28.3

you know, you hold it to the baby's lips, basically, and let it slowly, like, let them try to, like, first you let it slowly trickle in so that they know, oh, water in straw, the water is in the straw. And then you, then you'll let them try to actually, like, you hold your finger longer and let them try to suck it out so that they know to use pressure to suck it out. And then the next step is just you give them a straw cup and see what happens. So that worked for us. I think that's sort of the method. But so yeah, if you can go and get a straw and just sort of start introducing the idea that there is water in here, because it could be a thing where it's like, I don't know, the water's in there.

2:02.6

Also, trying a couple different kinds of straw cups.

2:06.2

Because there's like our first one was a Zoli Cup, Zolai.

2:09.7

It had a really little straw that was good for young, young kids.

2:15.0

So that was a good starter one.

2:17.1

And now we use the munchkin ones that everyone

2:20.8

uses. And then, I mean, not everyone, but I just, I feel like I see them on the playground all the

2:25.7

time. Uh-huh. And then we also have like a, we actually have a hydroflask one that we got from

2:32.2

my sister-in-law, which he likes to, but it has kind of a hard

2:37.6

spout, but you have to suck it up like a straw. So, yeah, you can try. I mean, there's so many

2:43.0

different ones out there. And I'm sure there's some that are purported to be more useful for kids
