Summary

This week we’re praying that our kids are marked by God’s favor.

I used to think God’s favor meant I would have success in ministry, my kids would stay on track, my dog would bark less, and my husband’s work would flourish. But with a little gray hair (which will forever remain highlighted), I’ve learned God’s favor looks a lot different than earthly favor.

His favor is discovered in knowing that our name is written in the book of life. It is found in believing that there is nothing that can separate us from his love.

As we pray God’s favor over our kids this week, my hope is that we would understand favor in the context of Joseph’s life. We’re told that God gave Joseph success in all that he did (Genesis 39:3). Wait, success in all he did? He was sold into slavery, falsely imprisoned, estranged from his family, and more. If that’s success, we might want to consider being unsuccessful. (Just kidding)

But we know Joseph had God’s favor because the Lord was doing things in his life that surpassed his biggest dreams. Joseph’s faith allowed him to trust God’s favor even through some seemingly unfavorable circumstances.

We want that for our kids too!

God longs for his children to be obedient, walk in step with him, and surrender to his purposes. Join me in praying that our kids live in ways God can bless, allowing his great favor to encompass all they do.

Hey guys, this Cynthia.

Welcome to Pardon the Mess.

0:17.9

This is one of our many mess episodes as we're praying through the school year for our kids week number three. I just need to share with you that I just got off the phone from a radio interview I did. I think with the station maybe in Michigan. Anyway, they introduced me as the parenting expert. I literally laughed out loud. I thought you would laugh and appreciate that with me. Is there any such thing as a parenting expert?

0:40.3

Thankfully, those people don't know my children. So I did laugh and I did point out that, yeah, I was not an expert, but that I was happy to speak parenting whenever given the opportunity and point back to the Lord.

0:51.7

So I'm just glad we're here together and we can laugh about the fact that

0:54.8

there are no experts and we are walking this road together. And so it is week three. We are praying

1:00.6

marked by favor that our kids are marked with God's favor. And we've been talking about Joseph,

1:07.1

putting all of this prayer into the context of scripture. And I've loved that we've

1:12.4

gone through the story of Joseph because I think it applies to what we're praying right now,

1:15.9

wisdom, stature, favor with God and man. And so brief recap, we know this about Joseph as that he was

1:22.1

his father's favorite. He was the least favorite amongst his brothers. They did not care for him.

1:26.5

They sold him into slavery.

1:28.4

And in doing that, he ends up at Potipher's house. And remember, Potipher really loved him. And he gave him a lot of

1:35.7

authority in his household. But then his wife also liked Joseph and tried to have an affair with him.

1:42.7

He refused. He gets put in prison, finds favor in prison, and is put in charge there, eventually gets

1:50.0

out and is able to interpret dreams with God's help for Pharaoh.

1:54.3

Ends up second in command.

1:56.2

And so what I want to talk about for just a minute is these verses right here.

2:00.3

And I mentioned him,

2:01.0

I believe, last week. But let's go back for one second to Genesis 39. Two, the Lord was with Joseph,
