All right, this is a bonus podcast of Gun Talk.

It's not really guns. It's more hunting and conservation, and honestly I get it.

It's not going to be for everyone.

It is, however, very interesting, at least it was to me. I was at the

annual conference of the Professional Outdoor Media Association, P-O-M-A-P-M-A-P-M-A

in Kalis Bell, Montana, earlier this summer.

This is, by the way, a group that I helped form,

four of us created this group.

Interestingly enough, when several

hundred of us bailed out of a group I'd belong to, darn near all my life, the Outdoor

Writers Association of America when it took an anti-NRA stand

and hundreds of us left, and four of us formed, and the four being, by the way, Wayne Fears noted writer, John Phillips noted writer,

Jim Zumbo, noted writer, and me, we formed this group because the other group treated the

NRA badly and did not support gun rights. Hmm, consider that. But at the conference I was able to sit with Shane Mahoney and I had the

most interesting conversation about hunting and conservation.

Again, not for everybody, but if you're looking for something with some meat in it,

I think you will enjoy this. As you know of course I'm very much

involved in guns and shooting but I'm also a hunter. I grew up the son of a

wildlife manager who became a major media person.

So his effort, my dad's effort, was basically to try to get a conservation message into everything he did,

whether it's an American sportsman television show or the books he wrote or whatever he was doing.

So conservation slash hunting, which I don't even see a gap between the two are important to me.
