It was 1962.

I was almost 11 years old when I went to my dad in his office and I announced to him that I was ready to go deer hunting.

So he pushed back his chair and looked at me, says, uh-huh. And I went out, I already

had my speech made up. Says, well, I've been shooting a gun since I was six. I've been

shooting the 257 Roberts, and I think I could shoot even better with the

308. So I'm ready to go deer hunting. So he said well okay. So we got rigged up.

He we had a Winchester Model 100,

that was a really a good looking semi-automatic rifle,

and it came in 243 and 308. We had it in 308. So we rigged it up. He had a

lace-on cheek pad because I was too small and when I cheeked the rifle my was low, couldn't see through the scope.
