from the minute yendaril jumped into that brackish blue hole water she started out on a journey that could

have no good end.

She knew from the preacher's sermons every Sunday that hell was down below her feet,

but down is the direction she was determined to go anyway, straight to perdition if she had to.

For the beast she was hunting had to be a creation of the devils, so downwards was where

she would find it. Genderel had had to watch and wait for days until there was no one near

enough to the blue hole to spy what she was up to. That was the thing about a Buzarasa,

small village so poor, you could scarcely find two rockstones to rub together to make fire.

Only a few hundred people living in Trent Wall and everybody up into everybody's business.

But today she finally had her chance.

Truth to tell, though, in that moment of sinking into the saltish water,

Yendaril wasn't study in her future any at all.

She felt like she was all in pieces, couldn't hold us off together in our head.
