I thought it might be fun to do another reading from my dad's book, Grits on Guns. Obviously, Dad was Grits Gresham, and the Grits on Guns book was really a collection

of articles that he wrote for Sports Field magazine where he was the shooting editor for, I think, 27 years.

So this one, I was thinking about this one, it's about Bill Jordan. Now, Bill Jordan was a

a board of patrolman he became an exhibition shooter

uh... he'd been there done that

and these days as we have so many fast draw people, competitors, and a lot of people who are teaching gunfighting skills and forming gunfighting schools.

I just thought it might be interesting to remember somebody who was there sometime back.

Now I knew Bill Jordan, he was a very interesting guy slow talking great big guy

He talked slow drew fast

Bill Jordan the fastest gun.

When you see me coming, better step aside.

A lot of men didn't and a lot of men died.

Bill Jordan doesn't waste 600 pounds quite but like the guerrilla and the old joke

he can sleep just about anywhere he chooses the reason is that William could be just about the deadliest man in the country in a gunfight.

And it's a fact that this gentle giant from the bayous of Louisiana does things with a handgun that defy belief.

Bill wrote the book, literally, on combat pistol shooting,

and the title he chose for his modest little volume says a ton.

No second place winner.

In its eighth printing, it is either required reading

or a textbook in virtually every law officer training program in the nation.

In 1980, I talked Bill into filming a segment for the Sports Ofield Television Series with me.
