All right, well it's time, well actually it's long overdue for me to do another

podcast, a bonus podcast, from the book Grits on Guns.

This is a collection of my dad's writing,

Grisham, of his writing in Sports of Field magazine.

This book was published, oh my gosh, 20 plus years ago.

And the articles in it are from his column he was the shooting editor of

Sports Field magazine for a number of years and the piece I'd like to read today

is let's see from March of 1982.

It's important to remember the date, 1982,

because of course a lot of this information is dated,

but you will get a little bit of an insight into what the thinking was in 1982.

But also what you're going to find I think is that there's an awful lot of truly timeless

information and advice in this piece.

And this one is simply called 7M the efficient caliber.

The first 7M caliber rifle that came into my possession did so without much effort or design on my part.

Until that year, most of my centerfire gunning had been done with the 30-caliber,

300 savage and 30 a.

6 for the most part, and with the very good 257 Roberts.

Walter Wamick of Shreveport, Louisiana, now retired, but at the time one of the finest gunsmiths in the country

was the impetus behind that first acquisition.

You really should have a 7-M-M. Remimmington Magnum was his simple opening salvo. It's a good one.
