Summary

England hooker Jamie George joins Chris Jones, Ugo Monye and Natasha Hunt live from the stadium in Perth after England lose 30-28 to 14 man Australia in the First Test of their summer tour. They discuss where it went wrong for Eddie Jones' side who should've seen it home after Darcy Swain was sent off in the first half for a headbutt in Australia's first win over England since knocking the co-hosts out of the 2015 World Cup.

0:37.0

Right where do we start Ugo?

0:40.0

We'll just discuss in it then I didn't anticipate not once this week that we would be doing a pod of the back of this first test talking about how England lost.

0:50.0

And that's not me being overconfident it was just sheer excitement as to the potential of the team that was named on Thursday it had everything Eddie Jones spoke about the availability of players.

1:03.0

That that sent a cohesion being on tour for the first time in four years and it wasn't a case of him selling it to me I I believe that internally I just thought they'd go out and then.

1:15.0

Obviously we had the red card after it in the first half of swan going off for a head but I thought okay this is it this is it England go out do your thing put Australia to the sword nine from nine cheers boy.

1:30.0

And now I'm trying to pick the bones out and wonder how England lost to Australia and a 14 men Australia for the best part of an hour.

1:39.0

And I want to be 30 points to 14 and only those two late tries Henry Aaron and Jack van Portfleet saved a bit of a thrashing and we'll talk about Australia because they deserve a lot of credit but.

1:50.0

Mo to pick up on Ugo's point I think we all saw the team we did a bonus pod we saw the England team went yeah that team has got it all it's got paid Scott power it's got youth it's got experience.

1:59.0

So I remember thinking there are no excuses now they could be excused in the six nations excuses when it was covid excuses with injuries.

2:05.0

I don't know an excuse when you saw that team on paper for England today not absolutely not know so much chat wasn't there about that forward pack and how dominant they can be and.

2:14.0

It rugby so simple right you win the game line you go forward you win it in attack you win it in defense and I don't think any of us expected England to not win that game line in attack especially and then get people like Marcus Smith coming out the back door Joe marching who's on ridiculous form at the minute and.

2:29.0

There were some shining like to think Jack no look absolutely brilliant lose load on when he came on brilliant look really good impact but.

2:35.0

Yeah it was few and far between from an England perspective which I think we're just so you're stunned like let's be honest we're all just.

2:42.0

Like literally don't know how to pick this because it's not what we expected I think they would they would be in and they would be and well today I don't get to it discreetly using cancel Australia on Australian soil it's an Australian team that won five in a row in twenty twenty one it's an Australian team with a proud record I have a Australian team that seems to be on the up there's got lots to look forward to.

2:58.0

In Australian rugby but it's the nature of the performance who go the first half hour was so clunky that can be put down to two teams who not played in a while but then a path in that role in more try that one break when curry was put in by Farrell enormous found marching in the corner could tackle Correbetty.

3:12.0

We're really really living off scraps because that second half performance when everything was going England's way with the wall of the injuries in the red card that second half performance was so desperate when you're playing up against a team of fourteen men you often say that it can give energy to that side because they have to simplify their game plan.

3:27.0

And you've got to be patient we saw from Ireland who weren't able to construct together too many phases but then found so many opportunities in the last twenty minutes for England with the level of experience that they've got and been one man up in the forward packer just thought they'd be able to generate enough quality ball to light this England backline apart and I'm trying to quickly reflect and this is literally we're doing this podcast on the whistle I can't think of too many opportunities.

3:56.0

That England created right across the eight minutes and that's perhaps one of the most disappointing things for me because there is way too much intellect way too much quality for that not for that to be an issue within the much.
