Summary

An asymmetrical opportunity is one where the risk is low but the possible reward is high. Starting a small business on a low budget is a perfect example: it might not work out, but if it does, there's no fixed limit to growth.

In this series of short episodes from our partner Dell, I'll share three examples of how ordinary people are exploiting asymmetrical opportunities to radically transform their lives. The new tomorrow will not be televised–it's available on demand right now!

Our second example features a guy in Dallas who learns to pre-order limited-edition cars (no test drives allowed!), and then immediately resell them for more than he paid.

Side Hustle School features a new episode EVERY DAY, featuring detailed case studies of people who earn extra money without quitting their job. This year, the show includes free guided lessons and listener Q&A several days each week. 🎧

Alright, so jumping in here, a 19-year-old young woman has made more than $400,000 naming Chinese babies.

And perhaps even more impressive is the fact that she's done it by charging less than a dollar each.

1:07.2

The process is largely automated. Her main task these days is to make sure the website doesn't crash.

1:12.7

That is, of course, an incredible success. We're doing some more research and trying to get in touch

1:17.8

with her to feature her in more detail on the podcast. But I mentioned that story in the context of

1:23.1

asymmetrical opportunities. Asymmetrical opportunities are actions you can take that come with a low risk,

1:30.2

but potentially a high reward. So here is a non-business example of an asymmetrical opportunity.

Imagine you become star struck by a stranger while at a bar or a coffee shop and you feel like you

1:43.3

should go and talk to them. Perhaps you even feel like you should go and ask them out politely, of course.

1:47.8

Now, if you ask them out, they might say no. So you might be rejected. But the potential reward to

meeting someone amazing could be much higher. So low risk, high potential reward. Of course, you could

2:00.2

also think about that in a non-romantic context. Talking to a stranger, if it doesn't work low risk,

2:04.8

if it does work out, it could be something incredible. So I'm bringing you three short series of
