Timpony Surfboards very generously has donated a surfboard

for the past three years in the month of April in their Maui Leaflight construction to honor Earth Day.

Maui Leaflight is an option for all of their surfboards. And rather than traditional board

building materials, they use recycled EPS foam,

a bio-based resin, and hemp and flaxseed cloth to laminate the board. I asked Jeff Timpony and his

son, Nick, to send me some thoughts about the board and about the state of sustainability and

surfboards and the certification process for eco boards.

And I've been including some of that info in the introduction of each episode this month,

but much of it didn't fit into those episodes. So I've got it all here for you in this bonus piece.

It's Jeff Timpony son, Nick Timpony, whose voice that you're going to hear.

He has a degree in sustainable science management from the University of Hawaii, Maui College,

and he does the laminating for his pops.
